Demon Slayer: How did Tanjiro Kamado Become Demon King

The main protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado lost his beloved siblings and mother in a massacre by a demon. Leaving behind his half-demon sister, Nezuko, and himself alone. To avenge his dead family, he oaths himself to be a well-drilled Demon Slayer and finds a cure to transform Nezuko back into a human. His strong smelling sense guided him to track down demons till the day when he sensed the smell of the Muzan Kibutsuji, the killer of his family. He memorized his scent from the house filled with the blood of his family. Things are getting serious now.

Fast forward to the battle scene of Muzan and Tanjiro, the intense moves and saying techniques did their best. The peak moment is when the cunning demon king shifts his consciousness to Tanjiro. His demonic move to sustain his terror reign and puppets his followers made Tanjiro the Demon King after he defeated Muzan. This plot twist was expected to be the most heartbreaking twist ever in the series. However, this is the least. Demon King Tanjiro then turns out to be his fellow demon slayers aka Hashiras. While he was fighting his own evil self, he turned all his friends into foes which was a pivotal part of the climax.

The transformation formed by blending Muzan’s blood with any other human transforms him into a demon. This fact is possible for Muzan. In the final battle with Tanjiro, he realized his defeat was closer. Muzan made an evil yet clever move to shift his emotions and powers to Tanjiro. As Muzan knows that if he dies, then all his demons carrying his blood will vanish. The moment when Muzan’s blood mixed with Tanjiro’s, he turned from being a hero to a demon king. But the struggles don’t just end here.

Before being the Demon King, he possesses strong and powerful techniques for battles against bloodthirsty demons. This body is an ultimate example of a well-trained warrior. After the demonic blood fusion, he can live under the Sun, just like Nezuko. Tanjiro mastered the Sun Breathing techniques which is quite helpful to him as a demon too. Since the moment he turned into a Demon King, he was in constant battle with whispers of Muzan trying to turn him into a demon internally.

The manga was completed in 2020 on Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The series has 23 volumes, 205 chapters, and 12 arcs. These arcs are still in production for anime adaptation. The transformation is in The Sunrise Countdown Arc. The current anime adaptation is till the Swordsmith Village arc. Anime fans will have to wait till this series.

Tanjiro was fatally injured in the final battle with Muzan. Lost an arm, various bone fractures, and a bleeding head wound which helped Muzan to blend his blood.
