This quest is filled with traps and puzzles to protect one of the notorious treasures in-game. The amjority of players feel lost without guidance. The cellar is hidden under the Blighted Village Apothecary shop. This shop has plants and bottles stuffed inside. These puzzles are to shield the Necromancy of Thay. This cellar can be opened by a secret door behind a bookcase.

First, you need to reach the Blighted Village. Enter the house on the south of its waypoint. Reach the cellar door (X:32 Y:379)within the shop. Here is how to open it.

  • There will be some wooden crates close to the bookcase. Move them to the left.
  • There will be a lever. Pull it to open the secret door. Before you open the lever, there will be a requirement to read a doctor’s journal. Read it as it will be helpful later.
  • Inside there will be two Agile Guardians in Mouldering Caskets. You can defeat them from a distance by using Cleric’s powers. Or use the Scroll of Summon Quasit.
  • Head towards the east to reach a wooden platform with an Ornate Mirror.

  • Select “Yes, an ally! I’m an ally of your master’s.”
  • Select “Szass Tam is a foul, wretched creature.”
  • Select “To clean a wound?”
  • Select “I read a doctor’s journal – he used balsam ointment to clean a wound.”. The doctor’s journal you read near the bookcase has this answer.

To get Necromancy of Thay, you need to safely open the door. There will be two plates – one on the plate of the cage’s door and one on the plate beneath the Necromancy of Thay. Select the best party member to unlock the cage’s locked door. Another one is to disable traps. Now you have the Necromancy of Thay.

You have two options with Necromancy of Thay. You can unlock it or destroy it. To destroy it you can ask any character who doesn’t have any power abilities like Shadowheart. And to unlock it, you need to combine it with Dark Amethyst to complete the Whispering Depths quest.

To complete the Whispering Depths quest, you need to enter the well of the Blighted Village or the opposing door. Then search for Dark Amethyst. It is a crystal that will be on the ground with the Spider Matriarch boss. Next, an option will appear to use the Necromancy of Thay to combine both. Choose the option and then quest is completed. Gale or Astarion will be great to hand over the book.
