#1 Increase Friendship

Check their preferences and gift them. Gift them twice a week and a special gift on their birthday will boost the relationship. To check the birthday of any NPC, check the calendar hanging outside Pierre’s Store. Make sure to gift something special as a birthday gift because it boosts the relationship by 8x.

#2 Start a Relationship

After a couple of gifts, you will have eight hearts with the NPC. Once the heart count is eight, Pierre will send you a letter. The letter will state that your favorite NPC is getting close to the townsfolk. Then, recommend you gift him/her a bouquet.

As per the local tradition in Pelican Town, it has a meaning. Gifting a bouquet is a symbol of romantic interest. Now, you can get a bouquet for 600g from Pierre’s Shop. As you gift the bouquet to your marriage NPC, they will love it and express the same feeling towards you.

Now, two grayed hearts will open up and the heart count will reach 10. That NPC will be mentioned as your girlfriend or boyfriend in the Social Tab. However, dating all potential NPC at a time will call a player out by a cutscene.

#3 Proposal to Marriage

If the player has reached up to 10 hearts and has upgraded the Farmhouse at least once, the proposal begins. On a rainy day on the eastern side of the Beach, Old Mariner an NPC will appear to sell a Mermaid Pendant. Giving a Mermaid Pendant is considered a sign of a marriage proposal in Pelican Town.

A Mermaid Pendant is a necklace that is considered an engagement ring. It will cost 5,000g. Just like a bouquet, gift it to your partner and they will be delighted to get married. After three days of proposal, as the player wakes up a cutscene of a marriage ceremony at the town square begins. Then on your farmhouse porch at 6 am, you and your fiance will appear to begin their first day of marriage.

After the update, the newly married couple enjoys a week of honeymoon. Before the update, most of the couples experienced communication issues as most of the partners stayed in bed idle. Now the partners stay less in bed and enjoy their honeymoon. Moreover, another feature a minimum heart level threshold is added.
