The story is about a young boy, Mahito who lives a depressing life after his mother’s accidental death in a hospital fire. He lives with his maternal aunt, Natsuko, and gets married to his father. While his father works at the airplane parts, he gets to know about the tower where his uncle died due to reading books.

The rapid shift of the movie takes place when Mahito discovers that the heron is a hybrid of man and bird. Mahito placed an arrow in his bead and it transformed. He then travels to the afterworld of death where marshmallow-like spirits and doppelgängers of the dead lives.
The storyline of the movie shows that the dead are necessarily not the end. Amazing expressions of feelings, textures of skin tones, and perfect mannerisms are what viewers expected from Hayao Miyazaki’s last masterpiece.
