The fandom of Sims 4 has been waiting for a decade to have a multiplayer feature. This news is not a rumor or buzz; it’s an official hint from The Sims insider. Since the release of The Sims 4 back in 2014, fans are looking forward to the multiplayer mode. One of the creative leads of The Sims 5 has spoken about the multiplayer mode in a podcast at Radio Times. Multiplayers History of The Sims Series
The Sims began back in 2002 with the multiplayer mode with The Sims Online. But was destined to shut down due to a lack of players. Creator of The Sims, Maxis Studios didn’t give up and relaunched the series with solo-player mode.
The Sims 3 and 4 multiplayer mods shook the player’s attention. From customizing eye color to handling moodlets, players love the overall gameplay. However, the fanbase was seen as divided on the opinion of multiplayer mode in the community. But the recent interview by the Creative Vice President of the franchise, Lyndsay Pearson hints at the development team’s intention for the multiplayer mode. Here are the highlights from the podcast.

Lyndsay Pearson had a podcast interview with the Radio Times yesterday. She deliberately mentioned behind the scenes regarding The Sims 5; codenamed Project Rene. Pearson opens up about the developer’s thoughts about the multiplayer mode and its gameplay.
At first, she clearly stated that “she and her team wanted the multiplayer mode in The Sims 5”. She, then rapidly clarified that the team was not interested in “multiplayer in the big, scary ‘jump in a world full of strangers’ kind of way” but wanted minimal friendship interaction among friends. She also quoted an inspiration from Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Further, she continued to explain her example with “talk about Animal Crossing all the time, because it is such a good example of my little space, my little island, but I can invite you over.”
The post regarding the multiplayer mode on The Sims 5 gameplay was shared from the official X account of Radio Times. “And we’ve seen throughout the last few years of Animal Crossing, people inventing ways to play together that the game doesn’t specifically support, but they’ve made up scavenger hunts or whatever, which is amazing. Or people who hosted talk shows on Animal Crossing, I think, is incredible, right?”
Pearson also stated that Among Us is yet another example of integrating multiple collaboration in-game. Further, the developers are still looking at various inspirations. Later she reconfirmed the last official announcement by the studio that The Sims 5 will not be in multiplayer mode.
The news of The Sims 5 multiplayer mode was exciting for the fans which has raised their hopes. Maxis Studios has been careful with undercover game details till release. Yet EA has confirmed that the new game series will be free to download and won’t replace Sims 4.
