Plutonium or Pu is a rare powerful mineral that can help you craft various weapons mods. Just like the real world this is a valuable yet risky mineral. You can only find Plutonium at selective locations in the Starfield system. The best place to mine Plutonium for rookies is Grimsey in the Norion system. Plutonium can craft Vytinium Fuel Rod, Security Robot 02, and some Outpost structures. One of those Outpost structures can help you mine Pu on planets enriched with this mineral. You can also purchase Plutonium from certain shops but it will be quite expensive.

#1 Craft a Plutonium Extractor

Reach the Plutonium-enriched planets like Jemison Mercantile in New Atlantis and Midtown Minerals in Akila City. Then, search for a Plutonium vein. Set the Outpost Beacon close to the vein and reach out in your build mode. From your build mode, you have to get the raw materials to craft an Extractor. 4x Iron, 2x Tungsten, and 4x Aluminium will craft an Extractor for you. You can also connect it to the mining machine to keep extracting Plutonium for you.

#2 Purchase Plutonium from suppliers

You can purchase Plutonium from the Mining League in Neon at Level 1 from Volii Alpha.

#3 Harvest Plutonium veins with a cutter

You can use a laser beam of the Cutter to break the piles into smaller portions.

#4 Use Planet Scan

You will not see Plutonium in a regular Planet Scan. You have to upgrade your Scanning Skill to Rank 3 using the Science Tree.

BONUS Tips for Getting Plutonium

There is a bonus tip for you. Once your extractor is working, you can travel to Uranus or Titan, Saturn’s Moon. While you rest there, in-game time will accelerate which leads to vast production of Pu. This way players can get tons of Pu in a short time.

Another pro tip for my PC players. You can enter this code “player.additem 0000558C [Quantity]” in the console command menu. Replace Quantity with the number of Pu Ores you need. But here is a downfall of this trick all ongoing achievements will be disabled in the current guide.
